- The Academy welcomes as individual members people who are independent scholars, i.e., people who are pursuing knowledge in or across any fields, but whose research, unlike that of full-time faculty or staff, is not supported by an academic institution. A person employed by an academic institution but who pursues research on a topic not related to his or her appointment in that academic institution might be considered to be an independent scholar.
- Membership in the Academy shall be open to all persons interested in furthering the purposes and objectives of the Academy and shall consist of anyone whose application for admission as a member has received the approval of the Board of Directors of the Academy.
- The Academy's Board of Directors may also invite people who satisfy the Academy's conditions of membership to apply to become members of the Academy.
Please note: - Qualification for membership shall be work of scholarly merit, such as, but not limited to: quality of the research, publications, scholarly output, or other indication of scholarly purpose.
- Although a university degree may serve as indication of scholarly purpose, no degree is required for membership.
