Membership Criteria

  1. The Academy welcomes as individual members people who are independent scholars, i.e., people who are pursuing knowledge in or across any fields, but whose research, unlike that of full-time faculty or staff, is not supported by an academic institution.  A person employed by an academic institution but who pursues research on a topic not related to his or her appointment in that academic institution might be considered to be an independent scholar.
  2. Membership in the Academy shall be open to all persons interested in furthering the purposes and objectives of the Academy and shall consist of anyone whose application for admission as a member has received the approval of the Board of Directors of the Academy.
  3. The Academy's Board of Directors may also invite people who satisfy the Academy's conditions of membership to apply to become members of the Academy.

Please note:

  1. Qualification for membership shall be work of scholarly merit, such as, but not limited to: quality of the research, publications, scholarly output, or other indication of scholarly purpose.
  2. Although a university degree may serve as indication of scholarly purpose, no degree is required for membership.
