Invitation

Dear independent scholar,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to become a member of the Canadian Academy of Independent Scholars (CAIS). CAIS is both a centre and a forum for scholars in all disciplines and of all social and cultural backgrounds. The benefits of each type of membership are listed below.

As a member (including Affiliate) you will be eligible to:

  • have your personal information added to the CAIS online network
  • have your work or publication(s) added to the CAIS online library
  • have your publication(s) added to the hard-copy library (material to be submitted by you)
  • identify yourself as a member or an affiliate member of the Canadian Academy of Independent Scholars
  • contact other scholars in our online network
  • attend events, classes and workshops organized by CAIS (some fees may apply)

Additionally, Full members (only) will be eligible to:

  • receive a library card to borrow material from Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) library, as well as a login and password to access SFU online indexes and databases. You must come in person to SFU’s Belzberg Library (515 W. Hastings St, Vancouver) to pick up your library access card
  • attend workshops on using university and public libraries and their website on advanced research strategies
  • be considered for an appointment as an Independent Scholar-in-Residence
  • qualify for grants and assistance with publishing
  • join CAIS committees
  • stand for Board elections
  • vote for the Board
  • present your research at the regular CAIS gatherings

You will be asked to pay a $60 annual fee for full membership, or a $48 annual fee for affiliate membership.

If you have trouble opening the attachments then please respond to this e-mail with your full mailing address and we will mail you a hard copy.
